Can You Name All of the Wildflowers? | An Update From Crested Butte

I was humbled last week. I have a new friend and client that is a wildflower expert and we were sitting in their house and I mentioned how much I love the field of skunk cabbage in the field behind their house, he immediately corrected me in the most humble way, and said actually those are Corn Lilies and skunk cabbage isn’t found anywhere in Colorado. Well, I have only been calling it Skunk Cabbage my entire life! I figured I might not be the only one improperly identifying local wildflowers so I wanted to make sure you all know about my friend’s wildflower guide:

You can purchase a copy at the Rocky Mountain Biological Lab in Gothic or at the Coffee Lab in the Lodge at Mountaineer Square. If you’re interested in really learning the flowers, I highly recommend you take an Interpretive Wildflower Hike with the author himself!

Today is the Chainless World Championships aka my favorite bike ride of the year! If you haven’t experienced this event, you must! You can watch everyone at the finish line at the west end of Elk Avenue. The race starts at 4:20 from the top of Kebler Pass and the competitive riders will be coming through around 4:30-4:45 and then the rest of us trickle in over the next hour or so. There will surely be some carnage and a lot of great costumes!
