The Town of Lake City is the county seat of Hinsdale County, and is located deep in the heart of the San Juan Mountain Range. Because of the San Juan Mountains’ abundance in mineral riches, the town once served as a supply hub for prospectors, miners, and speculators during the late 1800’s. Lake City’s population grew along with the mining boom, but eventually diminished as the silver and gold mines were slowly depleted.
Today, Lake City is both an ideal tourist spot and a fantastic location to live filled with many friendly people, plenty of historic buildings, diverse recreational opportunities, and the pristine Lake San Cristobal right in its own backyard.
