Oh Boy! Good News on Restaurants! | An Update from Crested Butte

I know so many of you are wondering what is happening with our local restaurants as we inch closer to summer. I have a few great updates for you! The Last Steep is working diligently on reopening in the next couple weeks. They are making a few changes but will mostly be the same wonderful restaurant we all know and love. The same owner is also working on opening a new restaurant in the old Montanya’s building. We spoke to one of the business partners this week and they are planning to have a BBQ restaurant this summer but the long term goal is to be a Chef’s Experience restaurant. Both this new restaurant and The Last Steep are going in front of the Town Council Tuesday May 31st for final approval on their licenses. However, if for some reason, they don’t get approval their openings will be delayed significantly. She asked for us to show our support by attending the meeting in person or via zoom. If you feel inclined, here is the link to the Council’s Agenda (they haven’t posted the meeting for next week yet but it should be here soon). The Princess Wine Bar is slated to open today! They have had their windows blocked all off season while they do some renovations, I am excited to see the updated space! All of the other restaurants are either open or scheduled to open in the next week or two. I strongly encourage planning ahead and making reservations in advance this summer. It is going to be busy!

I love it when I am right!! Haha, not really but I have predicted that we will see a rush of new inventory as the snow melts and we approach June. Just this week, 40 properties hit the market from Gunnison to Mt. Crested Butte. This has been the trend for the majority of my career so I assumed it would be the same this year. The prices are still going up, these 40 listings have an average listing price of $1,183,780. Properties north of Almont have an average of $1,349,667! Contracts were down this week but it was also really quiet around town. We should see a steady traffic of buyer activity starting this weekend and carrying through the summer. Multiple offers are still very common! Watch my video about the pros and cons of using an escalation clause in your offer.

I get a lot of newsletters from lenders and today, one had this news: “Per Freddie Mac’s Primary Mortgage Market Survey, mortgage rates decreased for the second week in a row due to multiple headwinds that the economy is facing. The survey reports a 15 basis point drop week-over-week in the 30 year fixed rate.” One of my favorite lenders in Gunnison is quoting 4.85% for a residential 30 year fixed loan. That’s great news! Check out this great video on why it is a great time to buy a home!

Sold! – 421 Whiterock Avenue #5 – Crested Butte – $740,000 ($10,000 over the asking price) – This awesome 2 bd/1 ba condo in town didn’t last long! There were multiple offers out of the gate and it was under contract within a few days of hitting the market. We were thrilled to help the seller meet his goals and the lucky buyers are locals that own a business in town so it was definitely a win-win for everyone!
