The Deep Freeze of January

This month has been abnormally wonderful with all of the snow. Typically, January is cold, dark and very little snow which can be torture at times. It did dip down to -23 in some parts of town yesterday and that was a good shock to the system. It was -16 when I drove my kids to school, somehow they still think hats are unnecessary… mountain kids, haha.

Historically, January is a slow month for real estate sales. However, this year we had the least amount of sales we have seen since 2013. From Almont to Mt. Crested Butte, there were 9 closings and Gunnison had 13. The combination of higher interest rates and historically low inventory are the root of the low sales. Or did everyone just have too much fun over the holidays and didn’t shop for real estate? Right now, there are only 9 homes for sale in Mt. Crested Butte and only 1 home for sale in CB South. Buyer inquiries are on the rise and we are entering into the two busiest months of the winter so I expect this pent up demand to translate into contracts. Experts around the country are predicting a very strong real estate market this spring.

If you’re thinking about buying real estate, watch my video at the top because I bet you’re thinking about this exact topic. If you want to dig deeper into what to offer, give me a call and we can go over it together.

Have fun this weekend!

February 4th is the Alley Loop Marathon – one of the many unique events you will find in Crested Butte. It is a serious race for the athletes trying to qualify for the American Birkebeiner. Otherwise, it is one of the most outrageous costume parties of the year for all the other participants. Are you racing this year?
